Refractory Coating Thickness
The techniques which are employed by the foundry industry for measuring refractory coating thickness are being studied in a special project by Western Mighican University. Internal surface defects are consistently attributed to variations in coating thickness and limitations of the application methods on coated cores. Sixty million dollars is spent on labor, energy, and scrap control metal penetration defects in casting according to the AFS Sand Division.
